Pickleball popular with Oconee County seniors

Pickleball is exploding in Oconee County.

Participation in the lesser-known paddle sport that combines elements of pingpong, tennis and badminton has grown exponentially this year.

In September there were six players. Now approximately 150 people are active players in the Athens-Oconee area. The Oconee County Parks and Recreation began hosting games at Oconee Veterans Park in February with only four people. Now dozens of players come out every Monday, Wednesday and Friday beginning at 10 a.m.
