Avila Resident News, Tampa, FL
Our first Pickleball clinic was a huge success!! Over 16 residents came out to the community park to participate.
Thank you to the residents who came out this past weekend. A special thank you goes out to Coaches Russell Elefterion and Bill Miller for taking time on a Saturday to teach. Everyone had a great time in spite of the wind!
The Coaches were so excited to see the enthusiasm and natural talent Avila residents have, that Coach Russell has worked his schedule out so that he will be at the Avila Pickleball Courts to lead beginner drills.
If you are interested in joining our beginner drills, they will be held every Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM in the Avila Community Park. Additionally, every Saturday at 2:00 PM, anyone interested in playing will meet at the Park for a friendly game. The beginner drills and Saturday games are weather permitting.

Murder Mystery Game About Pickleball

Submitted by Mitchell Ball, Ambassador, South Florida

Mitchell Ball loves and plays pickleball; Barbara Fox loves and writes mysteries so they combined their interests to create the first and only interactive Murder Mystery Game about Pickleball:  Pickleball Is Murder.  Barbara, a Pickleball and USAPA member, learned about Pickleball a year ago from Mitchell and developed the Pickleball mystery for the first annual holiday Pickleball party.        Mitchell is the South Florida Ambassador of the United States Pickleball Association.  He has set up Pickleball locations throughout Broward county, organized the only Pickleball club in South Florida (over 120 members) and plays and teaches an average of fifteen to twenty hours per week.  Barbara Fox is the producer/director of Mystery On The Menu, an interactive theater company; she has been writing and producing murder mysteries since 1986.

Pickleball Is Murder is an interactive murder mystery game for eight players.  Each player becomes a character as they share information, examine clues, question each other and try to solve the crime. The victim is a Pickleball champion and the suspects include a jealous fiance, an ambitious coach, an angry sponsor, a second place winner and others.  Barbara developed the story and clues and Mitchell supplied the technical information (rules, regulations) about the game.  Pickleball is Murder is available on line at www.pickleballpromotions.com

Space Coast Pickleball New

Submitted by:
Scott Nelson, Ambassador, Florida Space Coast

Dear Pickleballer - Happy New Year
As anticipated we are already seeing an increase in pickleball activity across the county, we are in prime pickleball season. For that reason I constantly am looking to add new venues so that it is convenient to play with out too much wait time.

Pickleball Venue # 10
I would like to welcome our 10th Pickleball venue in Brevard.
Grant Street Community Center. Located at 2547 Grant St. Melbourne, FL  32901.
The Center will be offering open play pickleball starting on January 14th.
The days and times are:  Wednesdays and Fridays 12-2pm starting January 14th.
There is one court available but availability for more.

The Pickleball Guru Teaching at the Space Coast
Prem Carnot is full-time Pickleball Pro/Coach who specializes in helping racket-sport players master the finer points of pickleball will here at the end of January.
Prem is a full time pickleball teaching Professional, he travels the country teaching pickleball & playing tournaments. His web site is ThePickleballGuru.com. Prem teaches clinics all over the country and get extremely positive feedback. His approach is very hands-on (lots of drills, minimal lecture) and emphasizes “what works best for you” approach, rather than a one-size-fits-all set of techniques.
He has extended the opportunity to share his expertise with the Space Coast pickleball players during his stay here.

Pickleball Tips of the Month
TIP #1
   COMMUNICATING WITH YOUR PARTNER
Talk with your partner and make agreements about shots before the game starts. Agreements can include such things as yielding to the partner with a forehand shot when either partner can return a hit. Another agreement may be that one of the partners (the stronger lob re-turner) takes all lob shots and switches to the opposite court are made when necessary. During the game, talk to each other to avoid having both players go for the same shot.

TIP #2
   POSITIVE ATTITUDE MAKES A DIFFERENCE
Pickleball is a sport that is best played by happy people. Yes, intensity is good, but if you are feeling bad about your partner’s play or even about your own mistakes, you are bound to keep making errors. Take time to loosen up and try to be positive, it will only make you a better player.

Pickleball League
I am happy to announce that we will be starting the Space Coasts first Pickleball league this next month. The League will be at Satellite Beach David R. Schechter Community Center and will start February 5th.
The league will run 12 weeks (every Wednesday at 7pm ) and there will be two levels of play (+3.0 &+4.0).
There will be a nominal league fee.
Look for more information coming later this month.

Happy Hitting……
