The Corbetts Take the Upstate Annual Pickleball Award

Sixteen members of the Upstate Pickleball Group in Greenville, SC met at the local Corona Restaurant to celebrate the holidays. Yes - good food and great company were the perfect ingredients for a fun filled evening.

But before the evening was over, Pickleball players Ken and Lynn Corbett were presented with the 2009 Annual Upstate Pickleball Award. That's Ken holding the coveted "Pickle". The Corbetts will hold the award until next year, when they will pass it on to the next deserving player(s).

Ken and Lynn learned how to play pickleball at the Highland Lakes Community in Florida, back in 2007 and with the help of another pickleball couple, introduced the game in Greenville, SC.
Since that time over 60 players have played on the Greenville courts. Lynn is also the official photographer for the group, so it's hard to find a picture to share........but I found this one that was taken when they were visiting Florida this past summer. Lynn also does an outstanding job managing the BLOG for the Upstate Pickleball Group.

Ken and Lynn were recently involved in a meeting with the city of Greenville Parks and Recreation Director. He came to the courts at Timmons Park where the group regulary plays. Another player had emailed him about turning the tennis courts into pickleball courts. Right now they are painted for pickleball. While not able to accommodate that request he did agree to have the 5 tennis courts at Gower Park (another city park about 2 or 3 miles away) resurfaced in the spring and would try to have all of them painted for pickleball too. The group is growing fast so they are very excited about getting some additional courts.

Congratulations - Ken and Lynn.
